Make yourself uncomfortable and then…get comfortable with being uncomfortable
If you sit next to the campfire, and you realize that you are sitting on a pointy root, and the wind is blowing the smoke right in your face, and you are so close to the fire that you feel it’s overwhelming heat, are you going to stay there, or are you going to move? Of course, you are going to move because you are uncomfortable. If you were comfortable, you would just stay there. Life is the same way. When we are comfortable, we do not change. When we are uncomfortable, we work hard to make things better. If you can make yourself uncomfortable with whatever you are doing, will you stay there, or will you strive to make it better? Successful people are never comfortable. They work to get out of their comfort zone.
Look at your situation. Maybe it’s work, school, friendships, chores, home life, but for now, let’s look at your punches and kicks. Look at your strength and your flexibility. Is it as good as it should be? Can it get better? Make yourself uncomfortable by recognizing you need to improve, and then work to make yourself better and grow more comfortable. Then comes the fun part…get comfortable with being uncomfortable so you are always improving.
This week at Ancient Ways we are going to really focus on building proper technique from the beginning of the semester. We will talk about building good habits and show how to get the best out of your training.
Parents, we are going to ask that on the third Wed &/or Thurs of every month, whichever you attend, be prepared to come on the floor to help with training your child. Bring the hand target you got in the equipment package as we are going to let you hold it for your child and help their training. That would be this Weds or Thursday. Bring the hand target and be prepared to help your child on the training floor.
This Friday at 5:00 we have our Lil’ Dragons Graduation ceremony. We will not cancel the Black Belt Club Classes at the same time. We do have our Weapons tournament coming up in November so we will begin preparing for that in class. Everyone will learn some cool sword techniques and everyone will be expected to participate in the tournament. It’s an experience that is an important part of your martial arts training.
See you on the training floor, Grandmaster, out
