Dear Red Seniors and Black Belts,

Here is something I hope you have heard before: Our Basic program is a 12 month trial program to see if Black Belt is your goal. Black Belt Club is for those who have decided they want to earn their Black Belt and are ready to make that commitment to achieve at a higher level. Master’s Club is for those who have made the commitment to achieve far past Black Belt.

Now, we don’t force it. We have students who stay in Basic all the way to Black Belt. It is difficult because they are learning so much less, but it has happened a couple of times. We also don’t force people to upgrade to Master’s Club when they make Black Belt like most schools do, but honestly, you should.

The upgrades give you more. They give you more at right about the time when you could use some additional training to achieve at a higher level. Did you know we don’t offer the upgrades to everyone? Some people would do terrible in there and we want to empower people, not set them up for failure. Sooner or later, everyone becomes more coordinated, they get stronger, they gain more stamina and their flexibility improves. When we see that they are ready, we nominate them for the upgrade program.

As a Red Senior and/or Black Belt, you should attend one class per week for your belt rank and a minimum of one more class for your program. Most Master’s Club students attend Black Belt Club classes too, so they can get their sparring time. But they also get the throws and take-downs, advanced weapons training, advanced grappling and the more advanced combatives too. These are all electives you can use for your testing and are about half of your necessary curriculum. If you have not officially been nominated to Master’s Club, then consider this as your invitation. You need to be here, learning this material and achieving much more. We are throwing in the Leadership Program Training Class for free to all of our Master’s Club members who upgrade this month. To me, it’s one of the most important classes we teach.
