Little Kayla’s dad said, “I was so embarrassed by how she couldn’t be still or focus on her first class that I didn’t want to bring her back.”
I asked him, “Now that she has been here for a year, how do you feel about her experience?”
He replied, “The instructors explained it to me, that many kids are just figuring out how to behave in public. They were patient with her, compassionate and understanding, more than I was. Now she is getting ready to move up to the bigger kid’s classes. I’m glad I gave them the chance to prove this was the right decision.”
Kids are kids and they are going to behave like kids. Being impatient accomplishes nothing. We understand kids. We have a combined experience of working with children for over 100 years, with the education, degrees and certifications to show for it.
Lula’s mom said, “She is focused now, can pay attention, can keep her hands to herself, is becoming a great little athlete, has much higher confidence and knows how to be safe if someone tries to hurt her. I’m so glad I kept coming past that first class. She didn’t want to participate on that first night, or the second one, but finally she got out there.”
A Martial arts school is very different than typical places we go in our day to day lives. There are all these rules, etiquette and protocols, and to most people, especially little ones, it’s very alien, and we understand that. We will be patient, explain everything and help our students, of any age. It’s part of the fun of martial arts and makes for a great learning environment.
