For those of you who didn’t, please consider this.

Why martial arts? Martial Arts and other activities offer a lot of the same benefits. But there are some things martial arts training just naturally does better.

  • Better Focus – Many activities help with this, but striking drills, weapons training, sparring and partnering while working on technique requires much higher focus. All these things develop better coordination, balance and focus.
  • Higher Confidence – Confidence from swimming is great on the pool deck or the beach, but it won’t do much good anywhere else. Sport confidence is great while playing that sport. Martial arts confidence helps you feel safe and secure everywhere you go, in board rooms, ball parks, classrooms-up in front of everyone, all the way to back alleys where your life might be threatened. It isn’t shared confidence either, like team sports, it’s all yours, you own it.
  • Better Impulse Control – Learning to control the small movements of the body transfers easily to control of our internal impulses. For this reason, many doctors prescribe martial arts above other activities for ADD and ADHD.
  • Practical Self Defense Skills – 80% of women report a violent assault in their lifetime. How many do think never report it? The world is violent and that person who said they love you can change their mind, we see it in the news all the time. It won’t happen to my kids, they are ready. Nothing else can give parents this peace of mind, or kids these skills.
  • Self Discipline – Being able to make ourselves do the things we should do and avoid the things we shouldn’t do are what allow us to be successful and well rounded adults. Martial arts practice teaches this self discipline and nurtures it inside us.
  • Stronger Work Ethic – We don’t “get” our belts, we earn them. This requires us to push ourselves and develop a strong work ethic. There are no participation trophies here. We have a saying, “Lazy doesn’t live here!”
  • Perseverance – We all want to give up on things in life sometimes, jobs, academics, commitments, relationships, but if we stick with it, and work through the tough times, the rewards are always greater. Martial arts training is filled with challenges and perseverance is developed from meeting those challenges.
  • Improved fitness – 3 types of physical fitness, flexibility, strength and stamina. We do it all.
  • Success driven peers – We want our kids around winners who are success focused and achieving at a higher level. Dan Pena said, “Show me your friends and I’ll predict your future.” Surround your kid with these peers and they are going to naturally achieve at a higher level.
  • Positive role models – Our instructors are incredibly highly trained by ProMAC (Professional Martial Arts College), MATA (Martial Arts Teacher’s Association), MAIA (Martial Arts Industry Association) and CMA (Championship Martial Arts Organization). On top of that, there is a sincere caring that can be seen as our instructors’ guide and coach using positive reinforcement and reward driven goal setting. Nothing does this better.
  • Mentoring and leadership – Our lessons in class, the anecdotes and stories help to pave the way for a never quit attitude, and nurtures a positive outlook on life that stays with our students for all of their lives.

Being a great martial artist is firstly all about being able to fight and win the internal battles, to say the right thing, do the right thing and be the right person. It is secondly about being able to defend against violence. Those combined with the reward system of earning and wearing higher belt ranks is a powerful way to develop kids into success oriented, high achieving, confident and happy adults. For 40 decades we have been doing this and we have countless testimonials of people who swear by this training, that they had no idea how positively impacting it was going to be.
