The Easy Way to Be Successful Isn't Easy

in Bradenton - Ancient Ways Martial Arts Academy

Do you know someone who maybe has a great education, perhaps they are naturally gifted, talented or charming, perhaps they have an amazing skill, but they still aren’t successful? Yeah, we all know those people. They have a million excuses for why they aren’t successful, but they seldom blame who they see in the mirror.

Do you know someone who appears to have no natural talents, is perhaps not the most educated person, seems to struggle with everything, but is still super successful? Yeah, Bill Gates, Richard Branson and Charles Schwab all come to mind. All were mediocre students, some with learning struggles and Branson was even kicked out of school. Did they just get lucky? No, they had a character trait, a very specific one.

The difference isn’t talent, luck or skill. It’s PERSEVERANCE. What is perseverance? The definition is: Steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.

I think of it as grit, determination, gumption and the ability to apply whatever effort is necessary, for whatever length of time is necessary, to succeed, far beyond where most people give up or say, “That’s good enough.”

Thomas Edison said: “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”

Schools don’t specifically teach perseverance, the state has other plans. Sports don’t specifically teach perseverance, the coach has other plans. Martial Arts, however, does specifically teach it. We make a conscious point of presenting our programs so that the students hit plateaus and barriers that are going to require more of them than they think they have. Then we get to show them there is more to them than they ever knew.

Want your child to be successful? Want to break down those barriers for yourself? Let us help.
